No, not necessarily. You need to get the electrical installation tested to confirm the condition of the electrical installation.
Fuse boards, fuse boxes or a consumer unit are designed to operate and safeguard the electrics within your home. It’s an important part of any home that will protect you in an electrical emergency. A fuse board has 3 key components; the main switch, which controls the main line of electricity into your home. The RCD (Residual Current Device) allows the electricity to “trip” when a dangerous fault or anomaly is detected in the electrical current. And finally, the individual circuit breakers control electrical circuits across the home, such as lights or sockets, and offer overload protection.
A well-installed consumer unit should offer adequate protection for many years, even decades. However, the regulations are constantly evolving, so It won’t always align with the current edition of the wiring regulations. The latest edition of the wiring regulations was released in 2018 and has had two amendments since.
The UK government legally permits minor repairs and maintenance without a qualified electrician. However, anything advanced, such as fusebox replacements, wiring a new circuit, and so on, will require a fully qualified electrician.
